[She feels bitter and angry and sick just thinking about it. She should have known there'd be a catch. But she'd pinned so much on this reunion. It was all that had kept her going the last six months on Ajna. She'd stared around the frozen wasteland of the North, desperate for any sign of Jon Snow and Ghost, but she was completely alone.
She'd considered running, but where could she go? Winterfell was gone, she was north of the Wall, and Jon could be anywhere - if he was still alive. The last thing she wants to do is to go back with the CDC, who'd lied to her and exploited her and made her destroy entire species, an entire world. But it was either that or die out here alone. Athos was there, and Bucky and d'Artagnan. They were close enough to family, and family was what she needed right now. That and the chance to get stronger. So she could take out everyone on her list - and that included a lot of the CDC.]

No. And I think they knew, the ones who recruited me. I hate them.
[She's surprised at herself that her hate isn't more directed towards Dagger.]
[ Family is the hardest thing to deal with, wasn't it? The ones you don't get to pick, they can be the best people you've ever known, or the most terrible, the most heinous. And the ones you do pick - what if they betray you, in the end? How do you know for sure they're what you need in life?
Or Dagger's just projecting. That happens. ]

They're assholes a lot of the time. I hate them too.
[It surprises her to hear her instructor being so openly negative about other aspects of the organisation. But it also encourages her, makes her feel like he's not the enemy she's always viewed him as in terms of being the authority figure over her, that she'd always tried to close herself off from.]

Did they lie to you too? When you were first recruited.
DAY 60 MESSAGE #2
By the way, those of you who got in really early, I've got a surprise for you.

So did you find him?

[ He can be moral. Or at least understanding. ]
FROM: dagger@cdc.org
No. I volunteered. I knew what I was in for, coming in. They weren't big on surprise recruitment back then.

You must have really loved your world or really hated it, in that case.
[Loved it enough to sacrifice everything to save it, or hated it enough to jump at the chance to leave with the CDC.]
